Cleverbot is clever and Halloween!

... So I still have not touched Photoshop. And I`m not even going to make any promises, because realistically, I`m lazy, and it will happen sooner or later, but probably later.

However, my life is filled with fangirl moments, and I have a few to share!

1. Cleverbot is actually quite clever! Check out the link if you haven`t heard of it. And check out this conversation we just had!

User: Snape, snape, severus snape.
Cleverbot: Dumbledore!
User: Ron, Ron, Ron Weasley!
Cleverbot: Harry Potter, Harry Potter!
User: Hermione!
Cleverbot: Dumbledore!
User: Singing our song, all day long at Hogwarts!
Cleverbot: I've found the source of the mysterious ticking noise. It's a pipe bomb!
User: Yay!
Cleverbot: Boom!
User: Voldemort, Voldemort, oh Voldy Voldy Voldy Voldemort!
Cleverbot: Snape, Snape, Severus Snape.
User: Dumbledore!
Cleverbot: Ticking bomb.
It knows Harry Potter Puppet Pals! I have just gained so much respect for this little robot. I was flailing all over the place when this kept on working. Any other good fangirly Cleverbot moments? Do tell!

2. Halloween is coming! For your typical teenagers, this means dressing in as little clothing as possible and calling it a costume. For fangirls and nerds, however, it means dressing up as your favourite fictional character. I've always been told that I look like Hermione (yay for large front teeth and bushy brown hair!), and being the nerdy girl who I am, that's who I'm going as! I went as her in grade 5 (and Harry in grade 2), but I figure there isn't a limit on how many times I can dress up as her. The only problem is that I'm missing two vital parts of my costume: a wand and robes. I ordered a replica of Hermione's wand off eBay a few weeks ago (only $10 with free shipping, oh yes), and it still hasn't come, and my robes went into the garbage after my basement flooded last fall. Gahhh and I have just over 24 hours left!

Any other good fangirly Halloween costumes?

Les Miserables Movie Update!

So this is very clearly NOT a picspam update. The wonders of a psychology midterm have gotten in the way of that particular area of productivity.

However, I am having a huge fangirly, flailing moment over the recent casting updates for the 2012 Les Miserables movie! Yes, for anyone asking, there is already a film adaptation of what is one of my favourite musicals. However, this one is actually going to have the songs in it, so triple flail time!

Anyways, the cast is currently as follows:

Jean Valjean - Hugh Jackman
Inspector Javert - Russell Crowe
Fantine - Anne Hathaway
Madame Thenardier - Helena Bonham Carter
Monsieur Thenardier - Geoffrey Rush (still just a rumour)

AFLSFLKAHSDGKJASHGKJDKJSH OH MY GOODNESS. ESPECIALLY WITH REGARDS TO HELENA BONHAM CARTER.

The only disappointment is that Emma Watson was rumoured to be in the talks for Cosette or Eponine, but that's not happening. BUT STILL, I CANNOT WAIT.

Another Fangirly Discovery! And some other Harry Potter websites

I'm on Photoshop right now, I swear. Hopefully I'll have the next part of my Top Five Favourite Fictional Characters picspam up tonight. Tomorrow at the latest, I promise. Well, maybe not. But anyways, I do have a fangirly discovery to share!

I found a link today to PotterCon 2012, which is an entirely-online Harry Potter convention happening in September 2012! I basically fit the description on their website: I've always wanted to go to a fan convention, but they're never in my area / I do not have that kind of money. So that excites me. Tickets are $20, and I'm going to wait until there's a bit more publicity and information on it before I buy one, but as far as I'm concerned, you can count me in.

I thought I'd take this opportunity to offer up a few web resources where Harry Potter is concerned. It's a huge fandom, and I'm still finding it kind of hard to navigate online, even though I've been part of it forever, but I've found a few gold mines along the way.

1. Alivans - Makers of wands, brooms, and other Harry Potter merchandise. If you're looking to get your own wand or broom, this is the place. Their stuff is gorgeous. But the catch, of course, is that it will cost you your life savings. It's still worth drooling and dreaming over though.

2. MuggleNet - A gold mine for any news related to Harry Potter. They track Quidditch matches in the Muggle world, post song parodies and Wizard Rock, and news about things like the Leavesden Studios tour and Pottermore.

3. Pottermore - Speaking of Pottermore, this probably should have been the first thing on my list. Registration opens on Halloween for anyone who didn't get one of the million beta testing spots! (And if you did get a spot, add me! HazelCharm112.)

4. Leavesden Studios Tour Website - And, speaking of the Leavesden Studios tour, here's the link for that! Warner Brothers is allowing you to tour the sets from the Harry Potter movies, which sounds absolutely amazing. If only I lived remotely close to England...

5. Wizarding Life Magazine - A hilarious magazine that writes for a magical audience. Headlines include Gingerism: A Serious Issue Within the Walls of Hogwarts? and New Welsh Dragon Reserve Means More Poaching.

6. PottersWorld - A Harry Potter world RPG in which you start as an eleven-year-old student at Hogwarts and can grow up to enter the adult world and take on jobs at St. Mungo's, the Ministry and more. It's got fantastic detail put into it, and once you get a hang of the rules, it's a ton of fun. I RP there as Viola Warren, so say hi if you join!

7. The Dark Arts - A site dedicated to Harry Potter fan art. You can take a look at the artist forums, or request that stuff be made for you. There is some serious talent over here...

8. Harry Potter Fan Fiction - Pretty self-explanatory. Harry Potter fanfic! Beware of Hermione/Sorting Hat... Yeah, it exists.

9. J.K. Rowling's Official Site - Again, self-explanatory. Has her bio and her latest news on it, and its design is fantastic.

10. Harry Potter Wiki - Has everything you'd ever want to know on anything Harry Potter-related. I could spend hours getting lost on the pages of this website. Definitely worth a visit.

I have a terrible feeling that I'm missing something totally obvious, so I might add some stuff later, but these are the top 10 sites that come to mind when I think of Harry Potter! Be back soon with more picspammage (hopefully).

Mischief managed.

Support a Dollhouse reunion!

So I was ridiculously busy today and have not done any work on my Top 5 Favourite Fictional Characters picspam, but I did discover something that I feel is appropriate to post here.

For those of you who haven't watched anything by Joss Whedon, you are missing out. He's the creator / writer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. I'm an avid fan of the last three, although sadly Dollhouse and Firefly were both pre-maturely cancelled.

Turns out, a bunch of the actors from Dollhouse are working on a movie! They need pledges for it to be funded though, so do go support them over at Kickstart. Seeing Dichen Lachman, Fran Kranz, Felicia Day, Enver Gjokaj and Maurissa Tancharoen (along with two actors named Caitlin Stasey and Karim Saleh, who I haven't heard of) all on the same screen again would be heavenly.

Pledge, pledge, pledge! They give you awesome stuff for doing it too. And it's $1 minimum, which really isn't a lot.

Top Five Fictional Characters, Part 1

So I figured that I'd start this blog by posting picspams to appreciate my top five fictional characters from the various fandoms I'm part of. Characters can make or break a fandom in my opinion, and I've discovered some amazing ones throughout my fangirling days, so I'm excited to share my top five with you!

TOP FIVE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS

#5 - Megara (Hercules)

I love a lot of characters from the Disney Classics, but Meg has always been  a standout for me. There are so many stereotypes that circulate about the Disney princesses: how they depend on men, how they're damsels in distress, how they don't have personalities of their own, etc. I'm not saying I believe all of them, or even any of them (I do like quite a few of the other Disney princesses, particularly Belle and Jasmine), but no matter what you say, you can't argue any of those things about Meg. Meg is potentially the most flirtatious Disney character, but she does not depend on men by any means. She sold her soul to Hades to save someone she loved, but the bad results of that deal have left her with a "men suck" attitude, and my favourite quote of her's is "Sometimes it's better to be alone... Nobody can hurt you."

Meg is a good actress who is capable of holding her own against Hercules, Phil, Hades, Pegasus, you name it. She's sarcastic, funny, and does what she can to help the people she cares about.

Well, hello there!

My name is Lucy, and I am a fangirl. An insane, flailing, enthusiastic, fangirl. And I'm pretty proud of it too. I've been thinking of a proper outlet to let out my fangirlishness for a while, and I've finally decided on this blog.

First, a little about myself:

FANDOMS
I flail the most about Lost, How I Met Your Mother and Harry Potter. Other things I flail about include Disney classics, House, 30 Rock, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, V (2009), Dollhouse, America's Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, Bones, My So-Called Life, Glee, Flashforward, One Tree Hill, Grey's Anatomy, Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Cardcaptors, Survivor... Heck, it's probably easier to list what I don't flail about.

SHIPS
Like most die-hard fangirls, I am a huge shipper. I won't list them all, but my top ships are:
- Jack/Juliet (Lost), although I also support Sawyer/Juliet and Sawyer/Kate
- Barney/Robin (HIMYM)
- Harry/Hermione and Ron/Hermione (Harry Potter), although I also love Harry/Luna
- House/Cuddy (House)
- Roslin/Adama (BSG)
- Damon/Elena (TVD)
- Booth/Brennan (Bones)
